There are few things more exciting than casting tiny metal slugs into a boiling bait ball of fish. You retrieve quickly until BANG, your lure is nailed by a large pelagic. The rod buckles over as line is stripped from the reel. The sound of braid being torn from the spool of a Saltiga is guaranteed to get your heart pounding.
The warmer months from November through to May are the prime times for this adrenaline charged form of angling, where various Tuna and Mackerel species can be seen thrashing through schools of baitfish. The Equipment.
We run a full range of quality Daiwa Saltiga outfitfs matched with quality Daiwa Saltiga light tackle spin rods for this adrenalin pumped sight casting form of fishing.
For the lightest form and for small tunas we have a Daiwa Steez 2500 which runs 7kg of drag paired to a Daiwa Steez Kingbolt rod spooled with 6lb Fireline which screams on the smaller Mack tunas and Spotted Mackerel. We then have a Daiwa Saltiga 3500 game reel fitted with an alloy power knob handle and spooled with 35lb sensor braid paired to a Daiwa Saltiga 70s Dorado rod. We also have a Daiwa Morethan Branzino 3000 reel fitted with an Rcs power knob handle and spooled with 35lb sensor braid and also paired to a Saltiga 70s Dorado rod.
Both these outfifs are capable of handling the screaming runs that we get from our larger Mack Tunas as well as the Longtail and Yellowfin Tunas that we regullary get to the 18kg mark which will give you an hour to an hour and a halves workout.
We then have a Saltiga 4500h reel spooled with 50lb Sensor braid and paired to a Saltiga Game 68s-3 rod which we use to knock over the Longtail and Yellowfin with when they are in more of an abundance and a Daiwa Saltiga 6000gt reel paired to a Saltiga 80tn rod which we use to target big Giant Trevally on surface poppers on our trips further north.
