Hey everyone, well the build up may be well and truly here and the tourism trade is backing off but the fishing is well and truly hotting up, particularly in the feeder creeks wand with the spring tides the Barra have been making themselves heard by their resounding buffing of the schools of spooked bait fish!
Friday the 7th we had Rowan and Kate Moore out with us for the full day where the tides wern’t the most favorable as we targeted the creek systems with the Soft Plastic gear where Kate was happy to watch as Rowan worked the creek systems hard flicking the little 1/8oz jig heads around the mouths to be rewarded with some Golden Snapper before the Daiwa Luvias 200 reel screamed to life as a very solid Brown Mowong did some resounding runs for freedom all to no avail eventually falling to the net to come in at a very respectful 6kgs! Rowan ended up with 3 Golden Snapper, 1 Golded Trevally and a Catfish to add to the Mowong as well as dropping a Queenfish.
On Monday we were out for a half day with Jonathan Sweet from Melbourne, Henry Sweet from Adelaide and Alan O’ Neill from Sydnaey, we crossed the harbour to the feeder creek systems where on the run out tide the boys flicked the Soft Plastics around the drain mouths where the Golden Snapper were firing seeing the boys get a good mixed bag of species as well. Jonathan took 4 Golden Snapper, a solid Brown Mowong and a Cod for the 4 hour session, Henry did well bagging a thumping Brown Mowong, a nice Golden Trevally alond with a GT, a Cod and 3 Golden Snapper. Alan also bagged a Brown Mowong and a Javelin Fish for the session.
On Tuesday we were out on the harbour again for a half day session with Wes and Stacey from Melbourne where Stacey was straight up on the 1st cats nabbing a Golden Snapper, Stacey then proceeded with her hook ups nabbing 4 Golden Snapper, and a nice Brown Mowong which gave her some hard work to get to the net on the 4lb gear along with a nice Golden Trevally. Wes worked hard to try nd keep up seeing him bag 1 Golden Snapper, 2 Catfish and a Trevally for his efforts.
Thursday we had Mark and his wife Michelle Sullivan along with their on Andrew out with us for half day session where gain we crossed the harbour to the feeder creek systems and with the spring tides the systems drained nicely for us as we searched hard for the much sought after Barramundi. Michelle hooked up on 2 Flathead,a Catfish and a Cod while Andrew took out the species catching 3 Flathead, a Queenfish, a Mangove Jack, a Blue Threadfin Salmon and a Barra but catch of the day went to mark who persevered flicking and working the Soft Plastic around the drain mouths to be eventually rewarded with a solid hook up and have the Daiwa Caldia 2000 reel scream to life as the water exploded as a mighty Barramundi shook it’s whole body into the air and after several heart in mouth moments as the fish hit the air again and again and actually head butted the boat at one stage she eventually fell to the net to jeers of joy for the much sought after happy snap coming in at a very respectful 73cms on the 4lb gear before being released to fight another day. Well done all around guys!
On Friday we again had Wes out with us along with his friend Bolo where we searched the drain mouths with both the boys fishing hard to try and bag a Barra on the Soft Plastics with plenty of activity among the spooked bait fish the boys kept flicking seeing Boro nab 2 Catfish and a Trevally for the session and with Wes also bagging a Catfish and a Javelin Fish before once again the water exploded with a mighty Barramundi being the culprit, Wes fought the fish well keeping it under control before it fell to the net to come in at 66cms.
Saturday we had a half day session with Danielle Young and Chris Gale from Adelaide along with Mitch Lynch from Darwin and again with the spring tides the guys flicked the lures throughout the systems seeing Danielle hook up on a Queenfish, a Mangrove Jack, a Flathead,a Javelin Fish and a Ray for good measure. Mitch bagged a Mangrove Jack and was unlucky to hook up on 2 Barramundi seeing both of them drop the hook on their air borne antics. Chris persevered seeing him bag an Ox Eye Herring,a Catfish,a much maligned Stonefish and a much sought after Barramundi seeing Chris also drop another Barra.
